Activities

The Costa Maya is unspoiled by large development and focuses on ecotourism and bio-diversity. With the jungle behind us and the sea at our doorstep, nature envelopes Balamku.

At Balamku, you will want to relax and be with the beauty of nature. There are countless varieties of birds (orioles, jays, flycatchers, hummingbirds and sea birds, especially) many butterflies and interesting iguanas to observe as you walk/hike in our area.

SIAN KAAN BIOSPHERE RESERVE
www.cesiak.org/aboutsiankaan.htm

One of Mexico´s Natural Protected Parks, Sian Kaan, just north of the Costa Maya, is best accessed around Tulum on your way south to Balamku. However, there are fishermen in our south end of the biosphere who will take you on a boat trip. This is about one hour north of Mahahual. A sunken ship is accessible in that area without a boat - an interesting snorkeling opportunity.

Only one hour from Balamku, enjoy the beautiful jungle setting and ruins of Chacchoben. Kohunlich, famous for the stucco masks, and Dzibanche, are close to Chetumal but can be seen in a day trip. A good resource for Mayan guides: www.chacchobenruins.com
